Mike Spilsbury is the Director of the Evaluation Office at UNEP. He has over 19 years of international experience in evaluation and impact assessment of environmental research and development projects / programmes. Prior to joining UNEP in 2005, he was responsible for impact assessment and evaluation of research at the CGIAR Center for International Forestry Research based in Bogor, Indonesia (1995-2005).

He has also worked as a postdoctoral researcher studying lowland tropical forest hydrology in logging concessions and protected areas in Malaysian Borneo and in the private sector as a manager and designer of environmental development projects. He holds both Masters and Doctoral degrees in forestry / ecology from Oxford Universityand Bachelor of Science in biology from York University, UK. He has authored more than 40 publications.
